HOWDY! Name’s Benton. But for as long as I can remember, folks have called me Bentone. I’ve been writing bass music for over 20 years! I consider myself to have been an early adopter of the dubstep and american bass music sounds, having been a proponent of both since the early 2000’s. I was very fortunate to spend a good portion of the 00’s and ’10s escapading across the country with my good friend DJ blac as 1/2 of our bass monster party rocker duo BASSthoven, carrying the good word of bass music into new ears and making both dubstep and BASSthoven household names, while also taking a large hand in cultivating the Lincoln and Omaha scene to the bass music focused cities they are today. We were even honored with the Omaha Entertainment Award for Best DJ/Electronic act in 2012. That’s a lot of bass!
Bentone, as a project, is my means to communicate my understanding and vision of modern bass music. An open minded and abstract approach that is amorphous in form, without boundary, maintaining roots in classical and modern theory, while also paying homage to old school electronic music, and moving forward in contemporary technique. There is great beauty in the world, as well as great sadness, grit, and challenge. The music is an attempt to express both ends of the spectrum, but also act as a representation of the existential conversation between the two, as well as create an atmosphere of great feeling, thought, and action. It is my intention to be greatly diverse in my music, and appropriate for many different times and places, from peak time banger dubstep, to great journeys through the worlds of bass music, to deeply intimate downtempo sunrise sets. Throughout my tenure as a performer, either solo or as BASSthoven, I’ve had the pleasure of providing direct support for artists such as Pretty Lights, Dillon Francis, Diplo, Zeds Dead, EPROM, Sunsquabi, The Floozies, Big Gigantic, Freddy Todd, Beats Antique, Dead Prez, Wookiefoot, Figure, 12th Planet, Ooah, Kraddy, Herobust, Vibesquad, Eliot Lipp, Ott, Minnesota, Protohype, Bil Bless, Ben Samples, Mimosa, Archnemesis, ill.gates, ill-eesha, NastyNasty, Russ Liquid, Kilowatts, That 1 Guy, Signal Path, EOTO, Heavyweight Dub Champion, Ana Sia, Mt Eden, Unlimited Gravity, Project Aspect, Spankalicious, and many more, as well as play festivals such as Infrasound, Wakarusa, and main stage at 515 Alive, as well as countless campouts, clubs, and underground functions all across the country.
